QPR Suicide Prevention Training

New Horizons Behavioral Health has partnered with DBHDD Office of Suicide Prevention to bring free Mental Health Awareness Trainings to the Community.

Suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in Georgia according to 2017 data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It is the 2nd leading cause of death for children age 10-17 in Georgia. The suicide burden in Georgia stretches from rural to urban areas and touches every racial and age group. New Horizons is committed to reduce Suicide Risk in our area.

Just as people trained in CPR help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to Question, Persuade, and Refer someone to help. QPR is an Evidence-Based Training Program for Suicide Prevention.

The Gatekeeper course is taught in a clear, concise format using the latest in educational technology and practices. The course takes approximately one hour to complete.

KEY COMPONENTS COVERED IN TRAINING:

  •  How to Question, Persuade and Refer someone who may be suicidal
  •  How to get help for yourself or learn more about preventing suicide
  •  The common causes of suicidal behavior
  •  The warning signs of suicide and
  •  How to get help for someone in crisis
