Carol's Testimony

When you speak to Carol about her recovery journey you realize quickly that she does not hesitate to share about her love and admiration for New Horizons. Because of her positive impact on countless others’ lives and her uplifting personality, we want her to know that we love and admire her right back.
Carol has been a Licensed Peer Specialist at our Midtown Recovery location for almost 10 years and has been living in recovery for almost 14 years. She remembers the exact date her recovery process started - December 21st, 2009. Carol was incarcerated at that time and had the option to either stay incarcerated for another 3 years or to complete the Journey to Recovery program, New Horizons’ residential recovery home. Today Carol says she is beyond thankful for the decision she made.
As someone who struggled with addictive diseases for over 20 years, Carol says her number one goal is to never forget her primary purpose: “to stay free from all mind-altering substances and to help others achieve that same freedom.”
Carol says the most rewarding part about her job at Midtown Recovery is seeing individuals come in on their first day and being able to witness them grow every day after. Although it was many years ago, Carol still remembers her first day in recovery. Little did she know then the impact that the process would have on her entire life. In addition to working at Midtown Recovery, Carol has restored her relationships with her children, has been able to be a positive role model for her grandchildren, and gives back to her community in any way she can.
“Recovery restores what’s broken,” Carol says. “I will advocate for recovery until my last breath because I am proof that it works.”
We can’t express how thankful we are to have Carol on our team. Her loyalty to our organization and the positive impact she has on the individuals we serve are priceless.
