8th Annual Transition Fair

The Muscogee County School District and its partners host the 8th Annual Transition Fair on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at Columbus State University Student Recreation Center from 5:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m. It is a free event for 6th - 12th grade students with disabilities or those who are on a 504 plan, an educational plan that gives students with disabilities individualized help.Families have the opportunity to meet with agencies that provide services for use now, or as the student transitions to employment or training after high school.

The guest speaker, Dawnell Jacobs, will share the story of her inspiring journey from homelessness to college graduate to published author.  Dawnell Jacobs is currently employed by the MCSD as an Early College English teacher, but life has not always been easy.  Her story of survival and success, will offer guidance, support and motiviation for you and your student. 

Participants may ask questions of private and public agencies, colleges, and businesses that provide a variety of services and opportunities for students and families. Vendors also cover topics on planning, inclusive college programs, recreation & leisure, daily living & supports, employers, training opportunities, vocational and college information, social security, and Medicaid waivers.

Partners include the Muscogee County School District, Exceptional Family Member Program, Goodwill, Vocational Rehabilitation, Disabilities Service Center, Columbus State University, Chattahoochee-Flint Transition Alliance, Autism HOPE Center and High School/High Tech Program and Access 2 Independence.

New Horizons Behavioral Health I/DD Services Staff will be there to provide information and answer your questions about our services.  

Participants may enjoy a light meal and a chance to win door prizes.
