Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs) ensures access to integrated, evidence-based treatment for individuals living with mental illness and substance use disorders through stringent criteria requiring data reporting, access to care, staffing and care coordination. There are more than 430 CCBHCs across the United States. Pineland Behavioral Health / Developmental Disabilities and Advantage Behavioral Health Systems received SAMSHA CCBHC Expansion grants in 2021 to develop CCBHCs in Georgia.
In December, two additional CSBs received the designation via DBHDD’s CCBHC Demonstration Project: New Horizons Behavioral Health and River Edge Behavioral Health. New Horizons and River Edge were awarded contracts to develop CCBHCs which serve anyone (age four and up) who presents with behavioral health needs, including those with cooccurring intellectual and developmental disabilities.
“We are so very fortunate in that the Department is going to be investing a vast amount of resources and support that will dramatically benefit our community and the individuals we serve,” says New Horizons CEO Andrea Winston. “Through the Department’s commitment and faith in our organization we will now be able to expand our service offerings to include patient and family centered, recovery oriented, wellness focused, and trauma informed services through our programs. The hallmark of our services will include integrated care that highlights the intersection of primary care services and behavioral health care.” New Horizons expects the CCBHC to result in greater access to care, trauma-informed care, evidence based trained staff, enhanced and expanded multidisciplinary care teams, and improved outcomes for individuals.
