National Autism Awareness Month

April is National Autism Awareness Month and Friday, April 2 is Light It Up Blue, when we are asked to Wear Blue to raise awareness of autism. Nearly a quarter century ago, the Autism Society launched a nationwide effort to promote autism awareness, inclusion and self-determination for all, and assure that each person with ASD is provided the opportunity to achieve the highest possible quality of life.
This year we want to go beyond simply promoting autism awareness to encouraging friends and collaborators to become partners in the INCLUSION REVOLUTION - a movement toward acceptance and appreciation. Let’s embrace a new perspective.
As part of this new perspective, we ask you to focus on the needs of children and adults living with ASD and the families, communities and agencies that support them - especially during COVID-19. Many living with ASD are highly sensitive to changes in routine and daily activities. Think how social distancing has impacted on their lives!
The Autism Society has published resources and toolkits on their website to help address the added challenges faced by the Autism Community during Covid-19. Resources may be found at Modifying Routines.
