Chris' Testimony

Today's #TestimonialTuesday is on Chris, one of our Substance Use Counselors at our Midtown Recovery Center. Before working there, Chris had to fight to achieve recovery himself. Here is his story in his own words:
“My name is Chris Littleton, and this is my story.
I had done drugs and drank alcohol since my teenage years. As I got older, I experimented with harder drugs and began to drink more often, and nothing took ahold of me. Until one day it did. I tried meth and what do you know, I wanted it every day. My wife asked me to quit, and I refused. She took it upon herself to flush what meth I had left. I was devastated, angry, and ready to go find more and in that instant, it dawned on me how it was taking control of me. I made the decision at that moment to never touch it again and I have stuck with that decision.
I began to drink more and more every day until I would black out. This went on for years and it was unknown to me the destruction it was causing me and my family.
On August 17th, after one of the worst days of my life, I made the choice to never drink again. It has now been 5 years and I feel the best I have ever felt. You see, on August 17th, 2019, I made a choice to end my life. But by the grace of God, my son found me and saved my life. He was 16 at the time and the incident really messed with him. I felt so bad. I checked myself into the Bradley Center and made the choice to change my life.
Through lots of counseling, I began to mend my relationship with my son and wife and I am truly thankful for that. I never thought I would be a Substance Abuse Counselor here at Midtown or anywhere else. It was one of the best decisions of my life. I love seeing the change in others who are dealing with addictions, and it helps hold me accountable.
On August 17th, 2024, I hit 5 years of sobriety and I feel great.”
We are so proud of Chris and thankful to have him on our team. To learn more about Midtown, call them at 706-569-0727.
