Emily's Testimony

Posted on Apr 30, 2024 at 12:55 PM

Emily is one of our newest Case Managers at our Medication Assisted Treatment program - a program that uses medications in combination with counseling in an effort to combat opioid use disorders. Emily's profession is dedicated to helping others find recovery, but she had to find recovery herself first.

In the 10 years of living with a substance use disorder, Emily experienced tremendous losses and challenges like losing custody of her children and incarceration. After losing her partner due to an overdose, Emily says she knew it was time for her to make a change.

In a court mandated decision, Emily was sent to our Journey to Recovery residential recovery program after having a positive drug screen.

"I did not want to go to Journey," Emily says about this time. "I was kicking and screaming, but I gave it a chance and met some really great people there."

One of those great people is now her husband, who is living in recovery as well. Emily graduated from our program, got married, regained custody of her children, and as of recently has moved her family into a bigger home. Although she has been a counselor at our MAT program for only a month, she has already made a lasting impact on the individuals we serve there.

"I am able to watch people come in here struggling respond to people like me who have been through the same thing," Emily says. "I would not be where I am at right now if I didn't get the help I got from New Horizons."

We are so proud of Emily and the beautiful life of recovery she has built for herself. She is an asset to our team and is already changing lives in our MAT program.
