Erroll's Testimony

Posted on Jan 13, 2026 at 15:10 PM

Today's #TestimonialTuesday is on Erroll, our new Men's Group Counselor at our Midtown Recovery program.

Erroll is veteran who completed our Journey to Recovery program through Veterans Treatment Court in 2024. His journey with substance use began when he returned from a 15 month deployment in 2008. Dealing with the loss of several members of his platoon to suicide, Erroll turned to substances to deal with his grief.

With a growing dependency on alcohol and drugs, Erroll found himself at his lowest point leading him to two suicide attempts himself. His relationship with his family was strained, his temper was hard to control, and his record of criminal charges grew. Through all those lows, Erroll described himself as a "functional addict," maintaining a full-time job and responsibilities.

After spending six months in jail in 2023, Erroll was sent to Veterans Treatment Court and then to Journey to Recovery: our residential treatment program.

"I still had a big chip on my shoulder," Erroll says about beginning treatment. "But it made me realize talking about my problems really does help work through them."

Erroll had many mentors in both Journey to Recovery and Veterans Treatment Court that he credits his success to. Now, he's able to be that for others in his new role. Beyond his career, he is proud to continue to heal his relationship with his daughter and has found a new sense of calmness in his life.

"I've always kept people at a distance," Erroll says. "Recovery has helped me communicate and be an all-around better person."

We are so proud of the personal progress Erroll has made in his life and thankful to now have him as part of our team!
