Sherrie is our Women’s Group Counselor at Midtown Recovery who helps others by sharing her own lived experiences. She celebrated her five-year recovery anniversary last month, but her life look very different than what it does now before starting her journey.
Originally from Texas, Sherrie moved to Georgia when she was five years old. She began using substances when she was 14 – leading her to develop a dependency that further led to hardships such as homelessness and incarceration.
Sherrie went through the The House of T.I.M.E., Inc. recovery program upon her last release from incarceration, where she said something finally clicked for her.
“I learned how to navigate life,” Sherrie says.
Today, Sherrie has found her passion in her job helping others currently facing some of the same struggles she overcame. Her favorite part of her job is see the women she works with grow and change. Her life has improved in so many ways beyond work as well – Sherrie know has a home and car, is engaged, and actively participates in recovery support groups. She has also mended relationships with many loved ones, especially her son who now lives with her.
“Recovery has given me a life,” Sherrie says. “An amazing life.”
We are so thankful to have Sherrie on our team as she helps the women we serve daily.
