Susie Reeder and Family Support

This month's Team Member/Program Spotlight is on Susie Reeder and our Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Family Support Program! ✨

Susie has been our Social Services Technician in our I/DD Family Support Program for a year and a half now. She helps bridge the gap between what insurance covers and what is still needed for children and adults with developmental disabilities.

"We don't provide the services," Susie says about Family Support, "but we help financially cover services and resources that insurance doesn't cover."

Being a mother of a son with autism herself, Susie had no idea about all the wonderful things Family Support could offer as assistance to her family. After using the program herself, she then began working in it in an effort to share it with other families who are navigating the same things.

"Having a kid with a disability can be more expensive because you want to do everything you can for them," Susie says. "This program can help a lot with that."

Family Support is a family-led program that currently has no waiting list, is not income based, and is available for families in our 8-county region who are living with a family member who has a developmental disability.

Susie's favorite thing about her job is witnessing the relief families feel after she helps them enroll in Family Support. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her own family, gardening, and watching documentaries.

We are so thankful for Susie and all the amazing things she is doing for Family Support! The Family Support application can be found on nhbh.org on the "referrals for services" page. To learn more about the program, please reach out to familysupport@nhbh.org or 706-256-3200.
