The Personal Cost of Caring for a Child with a Disability
Posted on Oct 18, 2024 at 14:51 PM
It costs an estimated $233,610 to raise a child to age 17, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. According to Autism Speaks, the estimated cost to raise a child with autism or an intellectual/developmental disability is $1.4 to $2.4 million. The more severe the disability, the more expensive the lifetime cost.
Family Support is one of our programs that can take some of that financial load off of these families. Assistance and funding may be available for a wide array of services and goods that are not covered by medical insurance, provided through the school system, and not available until funding has been approved for the Georgia NOW or Comp Medicaid Waiver.
You can find the Family Support application directly on our website nhbh.org on the Developmental Disabilities page under the Services tab. To learn more, call (706)256-3200.
