RECOVERY ROCKS!

Celebrating Our Resiliency as a Community!

We have ALL been feeling the Stress and Anxiety brought on by the Covid Pandemic and the uncertainty that follows in its wake.  September is National Recovery Month where we join our Voices with others across the nation to Celebrate our friends, family members, neighbors, co-workers, and others in our Community who are living in or moving towards Recovery from Mental Illness and/or Substance Use Disorders.

RECOVERY ROCKS!

Rock painting is a recent world-wide phenomenon with an estimated 6 million painted rocks creating smiles and chain reactions of kindness around the World. People paint rocks and hide rocks as a random act of kindness to create smiles and chain reactions of kindness. There are numerous Facebook Groups and Communities dedicated to sharing the joy of hiding and finding painted rocks.

We are celebrating Recovery Month with "RECOVERY ROCKS."  From September 12 through October 10, brightly painted rocks with uplifting messages will be placed along random walking trails in Muscogee County.  The rocks are around 3 inches in length so they are easily picked up and carried when found.

Hannah Israel, Gallery Director of the Illges Gallery https://visitcolumbusga.com/visit/things-to-do/illges-gallery-at-columbus-state-university and  Professor of Art in the Department of Art at Columbus State University coordinated with student volunteers and the “Friends of Art” Organization to create unique works of art for this Community Interactive Art Project.  For more information on the Friends of Art, visit https://art.columbusstate.edu/friends-of-art.php  This is a unique demonstration that VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES are available during the Covid Pandemic.
